It does not seem to be true that work necessarily needs to be unpleasant. It may always have to be hard, or at least harder than doing nothing at all. But there is ample evidence that work can be enjoyable, and that indeed, it is often the most enjoyable part of life. --Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

Tip of the Day:
Ask bosses what makes employees happy at work, and many are likely to think in terms of tangible rewards: a good salary, a pleasant office, generous benefits. Those play a role in job satisfaction, of course. But increasingly, workplace specialists are discovering that for many workers, the "happiness factor" depends heavily on intangibles, such as respect, trust, and fairness. "Study after study has shown that it is the small things that make workers feel committed to an organization," says Barbara Glanz, an author specializing in workplace issues. This CS Monitor article explores the top seven things people need to make them happy at work. [ more ]

Eternal Friendship

Eternal Friendship
True friendship comes from the heart and remains with one until all eternity. Yet, it is the strength and bondage of love and understanding of each other, that makes us friends. My hope is, that all our bond will last through all trials and tribulations,
Let our strength be that of a Lion and our hearts, that of a Lamb. Let each of us be each others strength in the times to come and endure all to come with integrity and loyalty...
For you are my friend.
Mark Farrell (March 1995 Body Positive News)
This Poem was written for the HIV/Aids international conference in Cape Town during March 1995.

Good night all!

Just wanted to wish you all a peaceful and blessed evening.

The greatest gift love for your partner

s5428972988_7016  I love my partner very much and we both have been working 8hrs a day and he has taken ill with cold sweats and chills. My prayer is that he will get well soon.

Well the last couple of days my head has been spinning due to the work load that I have. I do not have breakfast and seldom eat lunch or even take breaks in a 8 or 9hr day. I just keep on working and when the weekend comes I really dont rest.

Every day I gained more and more pleasure from this listening and looking, always seeing and hearing more clearly. As time went on, I appreciated how glorious and beautiful existence is, living. I saw how busy, preoccupied were most people with doing, making. Existence was already so much to enjoy, so grand and lovely, so exquisite. --Laurie Seagel

Inspiration of the Day:
"The year was 1965. We were headed toward the Haight-Ashbury. Maybe thirty yards short of the intersection, I saw him standing on the curb, a disheveled young man, not quite in the hippie mold. He was looking directly at me, it seemed, and gesturing emphatically, an incongruous grin on his face." So starts this piece from Works & Conversations Magazine, describing meetings with and reflections by Laurie Seagel, a Stanford Philosophy student turned "street person," who lived his life trying to break the habit of thinking 'where' and where to, emphasizing listening and looking, exploring the line between need and want, and having experiences ranging from being around Zen teacher Shunryu Suzuki in San Francisco, to raising his children as a social worker in Israel. Not all his life was easy and ideal, but distinctly compelling and soaringly human. [ more ]

True Friendship

friendship

We are all special in every way

War?

war

We are at war with HIV/AIDS but also at war with pharmaceutical companies and governments to implement primary health care for those who are suffering all around the world.

Sometimes it takes a child's mind to provide us with a humorous answer to our quest against the pharmaceutical companies around the world for cheaper ARV'S!

Lets join hands and walk this path together and bring hope to millions in Africa for Africa

We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change. And the most pressing task is to teach people how to learn. --Peter Drucker

Inspiration of the Day:
Managers who understand the recent breakthroughs in cognitive science can lead and influence mindful change: organizational transformation that takes into account the physiological nature of the brain, and the ways in which it predisposes people to resist some forms of leadership and accept others. Several conclusions about organizational change can be drawn that make the art and craft far more effective, and yet would have been considered counterintuitive or downright wrong only a decade ago. Two examples: 1) Change is pain. Organizational change is unexpectedly difficult because it provokes sensations of physiological discomfort. 2) Attention density shapes identity. Repeated, purposeful, and focused attention can lead to long-lasting personal evolution. These and several other conclusions are explained in detail in this intriguing article. [ more ]

More than a year ago

159427_443498  159427_550946  ribbonas

About a year ago I spoke at the college in the right photo and the left photo is of a vegetable garden maintained by the community affected by HIV.

I just thought I would give you a glimpse into my past, even just for a few moments

My aspiration for 2008 is the following: To finish my autobiography To complete writing a program for health care workers in the HIV/AIDS field. Providing them mapping tools and management program for those who need to keep up to date data on ARV compliance and for house visitations Have a permanent web site up and running before the end of 2008 which will network all NGO’s who cant afford to pay for their own web site and a network bridge for those who which to network. To have a laptop to work my various projects and bring them to life. I do need help in making the projects available and I have tried to raise money by making my paintings available for sale. I don’t do this for myself but for all those either infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. My vision is to provide a web site with various tools (open source) to all NGO’S, NPO’S, support groups, community leaders and networks. To be able to reach the unreachable. through Internet broadcasts and various other mediums. Fill the cultural gaps and problematic areas where discrimination still takes place. Have a comprehensive data base that one can access for specific needs in a specific area. A network warehouse where all can benefit from sharing their individual stock surplus

Western Cape South AFrica

My foresight is to eventually see Africa united from the smallest villages to cities networked together. A constant flow of information updated daily available to all.

Only a united Africa can overcome HIV/AIDS!

So if you can help me in any way achieve this dream, please email or call me.

Thanking you all in advance

Random Act Of Kindness Repost

I wonder how many of us know what random act of kindness really is? How many times do we walk pass someone who is in need and we just pass them by. This is just a small example.

Through our own experience in life someone out there who has come across our path of life has reached out and touched us in some way. There are so many ways to give freely and enhance and bring hope to others, in the same way it happened to you.

So out of the blue give something to someone who is in need and feel the difference not just in their lives but in your own.

You will see in the long run, blessings and sudden outpouring of kindness and unexplained things happen in your life. Just by an act of random kindness!

Petals

Even in my darkest hour, I have always given to those in need. Let your light shine!

Thought of the day

handinheart

Each one of us holds a heart in our hand.

Every time we reach out and touch someone we give of our inner selves and warm the heart of others.

Let us rejoice as we all have the gift of life

Be blessed

Mark

Dedication for 2008

I have decided to update my blog every day and once a week I will upload a personal video message.

I will try my best to include up to date photo's and information about myself and inserts of my book and anything you may comment on.

I believe in answering all emails myself in person! The advice I give is from years of experience and I accept wisdom from all.

I may be short of a few things to update and do my work properly but that does not hinder me in any way to perform to the best of my capabilities and been there for all those in need or who just want some inspiration.

Before I go to bed my thought for the day

No matter how frustrating the day has been due to things out of ones control, you can make the best of it.

You may excel under extreme pressure and be the strength of others.

Lead the way and build a path for others and heal their troubled souls through your actions and random act of kindness.

What a day

Well guys it has been along day. I have lost a lot of money today as I had to go to the hospital to fetch my ARV’S but with the power load shedding by ESKOM as we have a electricity crisis here in South Africa that affects every person. Well if you do not work you don’t get paid for those hours that the power is off. That is lost income.

I could not believe the trains today. Went running around today on Cape Town station as things went wrong. Yes they had power but no train driver and to top it all the bloody signals where red.

So I ended going to work late. There was no power in the area that I was in and to see traffic lights out at a major section is not a pretty site.

This is the sad state we find ourselves in.

I am so dam angry at ESKOM! They have to compensate the nation!

Imagine all those who are very ill from HIV or have full blown AIDS and cant get a warm meal and bath due to no power. People who’s lives depend on life saving devices powered by electricity.

Honestly, this is a national disaster!

Look beyond your inner fear and live

3dflagsdotcom_safri_2fawl

27-05-07_1206

I love my country and after surviving a near death head on collision,I know life is worth the living every moment. I still remember the impact and my last words to my partner, "I love you!"

No matter what comes your way and all the fears that come with an uncertain future, there is hope.

So never give up or surrender. I still suffer from the accident and have put coping mechanisms in place. Each time I am in a car, deep down I still have the fear of been in an accident again.

HIV is not the end of life but the beginning of a very special relationship with life itself.

In my next entry I will continue.

Have a great day guys and you are most welcome to email me or call me.

My prayer

213 371

Think of those in need who do not have access to health care and are alone.

Dear Lord,

May your countenance be upon all

I ask nothing for myself but that you will bless and open doors to those in need.

For I am happy and content with the daily blessings that you shine upon me.

Let us all be selfless in our ways and open our hearts and souls.

Pray for all those unborn souls of HIV+ mothers that you will bless them with love and compassion.

I ask this in your name, knowing that you are the Most High and all things shall come to pass

We can do nothing without your counsel and wisdom

Thank you for answering my prayer

Sundays thought for the day

Sunset

Wisdom is the greatest gift of all time
With a combination of love, understanding and compassion one can give so much
Learn from those who have overcome and implement their coping mechanisms in your life.
Listen and be not dogmatic and aggressive but humble yourself
Never let your dignity be infringed
So let wisdom be your friend

May your beauty shine

August 2007024(2)

May your inner being shine with radiance and peace.

Each individual flower has its own beauty and so have you.

Let it be seen by all.

Good night all!

Dew Drop

A dew drop

In the early morning, dew drops form on the end of the leaves and as the sun rays penetrates through the droplets, a myriad of colour spectrums are reflected.

Such a simple act of nature brings awe to ones sight.

Just from one droplet that looks plain until the spectrum of colours shine through makes all the difference.

We should treat all people we meet like dew drops, the first impression is not always the best to judge a persons character or inner being. Give it time and you will see the inner beauty come to life.

Update

Well this past week has been interested learning curve. Couples who have been together for years break up over something simple as a glass of wine due to the religious beliefs of another. This is just crazy. Where is the unconditional love and acceptance?

I have experienced that compromise and love work hand in hand. No matter what your principles or religious principles may be, in love you should be able to overcome all things and grow. Not just end a relationship after 5yrs in 5min and cut all communications and ties over one social drink. Then I question the entire relationship, was it based on love?

We all are human and should be accepted as we are. Change should take place through love and not by force.

Any case, this is just my opinion.

I am happy and doing well and my relationship is on solid ground based on unconditional love and acceptance. This week I have worked very hard and the coming weeks will be even more interesting as the new updated web site will be up and running. It will be lots of work to develop help files and training for end users but I enjoy every moment.

See ya guys later

Cheers Mark

Good day to all of you. As part of writing my book I will be writing to various NGO’s and NPO’s world wide and put in place a networking strategy to empower those who are either affected or infected by HIV/AIDS.

To do research on how they implement coping mechanisms and interview long term survivors and encourage those who are.

I will update you all on the progress and post replies and comments here.

Will update soon

Update

Well its Tuesday morning. Yesterday at work we had power shedding. (Our national power supplier ESKOM) decided to cut power to our region without warning. After working for three days on a project I thought I had last all my work. But, as usual I always make back ups and nothing major was lost. I will update soon again.

Emotions

Saturday, 12 January 2008 5:50:18 PM

Well I have been thinking again today in general about life and our creative gifts that we have. I write my best works of poetry and philosophy through unplanned events that happen on a day to day basis. Inspired by what I see and as I mediate on the issues it just comes out via the pen.

Inspiration starts many things in our lives, if we would just carry them out to the end. We tend to place them in the draw and forget about it.

When I meet individuals their whole life flashes in front of me like watching a movie and if they need help, I follow my instincts and start talking or write. It gives me great pleasure to see a positive outcome in the reactions. More is the coping mechanism each one gains and in return pass it to others.

Even though I still have not had my book published or got round to find someone to assist me. Its not easy with dementia even though I have tools in place to assist me.

I don’t have a laptop and so many projects have fallen by the way or put on hold for the time being.

But the negatives have never had a major impact on my life. I just work even harder to achieve my goals.

I will update again soon.

Saturday, January 05, 2008

Hi guys

Well its Saturday, 05 January 2008 6:00:06 PM and its just one more day of leave and back to work on Monday. I have learnt so much in the two weeks that I have been on leave. Catching up with life itself. It’s been over 15 years since I have had leave. Taken into context that is.

One must never change yourself to please others but remain true to yourself and principles at all times. I have learnt to be myself and respect all and their views. To listen and not criticize. I value the uniqueness of each person, as each individual has its own character.

Never surrender or sell yourself out, but endeavour to hold your head high. There is no price on dignity!

Have a great day

The Rose Of Life

Dear Friends,

2008 is yet upon us once again. I look forward to all the challenges that may come with this New Year. I am determined to continue writing my autobiography “The Rose of Life” © 2000 -2007.

I have throughout my life been dedicated to people in need. Coming from a Christian background and through the years becoming more spiritual inclined have opened up my heart and soul without judgement to all those affected and infected by HIV/AIDS.

It does not mean that I solely focus on gay lifestyles but my open door policy is for all no matter what race, beliefs or sexual preference they may have. We all deserve dignity and the right to live!

My book is one in many to come in the future and it’s not just my personal journey but a combination of poetry, philosophy within each chapter pertaining to incidents that have occurred during my life.

Due to my computer and hard rive crashing I have had to restart many times and sometimes due to till health. But, I have never surrendered and given up. Not even when I have been very, very ill. My focus point was not just to live for myself but for all those around me and this kept me going.

We are all blessed with various gifts and we must use them. Not only to enhance our inner being but to edify others by our works.

So I am going to need some proof readers and feedback from all those who would like to offer there input. Due to dementia I have had to put in place coping mechanisms and with the help of my partner who is my back up hard drive for that part of my brain.

Soon I will be publishing my first chapter to http://theroseoflife.blogspot.com and face book.

Looking forward to your replies.

Love and Wisdom

Love and wisdom work hand in hand. We should encase ourselves and those around us with the omnipresence of love and wisdom. Each one of us on our personal journey through life, should embrace what gifts and wisdom we have acquired and should share our coping mechanisms.

We have individual responsibility to those in pain, trouble and in need of upliftment in their time of troubled waters.

You just might have the tools to heal and instruction to overcome that which you have conquered and help another back on the path of good health.

Let this me the thought of the day.

Mark

Destiny

I have accepted my destiny over the years. It’s a privilege to be an ambassador for all those who can’t speak and those who need help. Through my poetry, philosophy and open door policy I have made myself available to all those who need to be heard. No one is forgotten or lost. We should take this attitude with us where ever we are.

Time and time again I have gladly given my ear and listened and not condemned but shared my coping mechanism and wisdom. In return I gain much wisdom and knowledge which I pass on to others.

Listen and learn from each other and grow. There is not greater gift than unconditional acceptance and love.

We have to speak for all the unborn souls and spirits that are about to come into the world and uphold the freedom and integrity of all. Every one has the right to dignity and love.

Let us make the difference.

I take no glory for myself but all glory is due to those who survive HIV/AIDS and share and empower others that they too may live.

Just a thought for all of you.
