Thank you USA for your contributions to Southern Africa and Africa

When I first found out I was HIV+ more than 20yrs ago, I was told that you had to get your affairs in order.

Well that was the start of this long journey up to the current day.

I volunteered for trial drugs as that was the way that we could get free medication those days back.

Today we are so fortunate that we receive them free of charge thanks to programmes from the USA ( Pres.Obama and Pres.Clinton)

Both these presidents have made an outstanding contribution to all South Africans

As one of the many I would like to say thank you Mr.President.

Not forgetting our own government and thanking them for making the positive change and providing all with meds.

Coming from the early days of NAPWA and the struggle then to the current situation where indeed we do get meds.

Not everything is perfect yet, but give it time and things will improve more.

My wish is that you too may live long and healthy as I have and do.

I love you all

Worlds Aids Day

its almost been 21yrs living with HIV,

I celebrate life to the fullest and would love to encourage those affected and infected by the pandemic to live life to the fullest.

If you read my blog from the start you can see that I have overcome many adversaries in life and have been able to empower others with coping mechanisms that they may implement them in their own lives and in return share and empower others.

We have the greatest gift of all, wisdom and a deep spiritual understanding of life itself

My only wish is that everyone who is HIV+ live a long and healthy life

thank you for been a part of my life

South Africa–burning Rome

With all the chaos, anarchy, civil unrest it reminds me of Rome burning.

Of course many will say this is isolated but the violent strikes started in the mining industry and then moved to the farming industry costing millions of rands in damage, if not going to run into billions.

The main catalyst is poverty and low wages.

I don’t have a problem when workers strike for a better wage, I do have a problem when they burn, plunder and even kill during these strikes.

This is the first time that I have seen this type of violent attributes which had lead to destruction of property and loss of life.

My point of view this is the first time its escalated to such a level.

What is happening to this country and where will it all end.

This is just my personal view

To fear or not too fear that is the question?

I can’t believe the rhetoric of the ANC or senior members making such irresponsible statements that smacks of ZANUPF philosophy and character.

I am commenting on the statement in the City Press on Monday about Helen Ziller.

Yes indeed the we may have the British ship arriving at False Bay, this time not to invade but to evacuate all the European citizens.

And….then the saying, we chased all the whites back into the sea would have come true.

Yesterday a bomb exploded in the prison truck in a brazen attempt to escape but to no avail as some where killed, injured and recaptured.

The violence just seems to escalate with voracity and intensity for no regard not only to their lives but others around them.

Not all of South Africa and its peoples live like this or even think like this, but it takes just one to spark a fire which can’t be quenched and sow destruction across the land.

We have to be diligent and use wisdom in the days to come.

My fear is that it will be faction against faction for power and a body count that should not have been.

There are so many innocents that have been killed in the last months and this has to stop.

There is nothing like fear that will drive people away from South Africa and to pack up and leave and you find yourself in a brain drain again.

We can’t allow this to happen to South Africa, a land with the best constitution in the world and a legacy that should be of growth and passion of unity of a whole land.

I am disillusioned and feel insecure at the moment, but where do you go, this is my home

In fact you are dammed with no recourse if my worst fears come true, only the rich and those with money will be able to escape the onslaught of chaos.

This is my extreme view and is not the view of others, I am just expressing that there is a real fear, that there is going to be a conflict of note and many will die.

We now live with high walls, electric fences, private security companies who patrol our suburbs for our safety.

We have double locked gates, gone are the days that you could walk alone at night or even in the day.

You tell me what you think is going to happen, am I exaggerating the current situation, or is it plausible, you be the judge.

Long live her Majesty Queen Zille Of The Western Cape!

The ANC and the big DA-Britain conspiracy

Thumbs up, Britain (Shutterstock.com)

I spent a large chunk of my ten-year career as a political journalist to convince pessimists that South Africa is not going to become a second Zimbabwe – for that our institutions and civil society are too strong and our international image too important to our leaders.

But clearly I did not do enough to convince some top leaders in the ANC.

Some leaders, it has emerged, seem to believe that like the MDC in Zimbabwe, the Democratic Alliance is secretly being funded by the British government in an attempt to gain a foothold in South Africa and eventually dislodge the ANC.

They base this on meetings between the British high commissioner and DA leader Helen Zille, the transfer of DA strategist Ryan Coetzee to work for British deputy prime minister Nick Clegg and Zille’s recent visit to Britain.

Laughable. That’s the only way to describe this.

But it is laughing with a tear – because it shows the incredible ability by the ANC to look for the enemy everywhere except within. To even make one up if you have to.

There’s no doubt Britain has an interest in what happens in South Africa. British mining companies make billions of rands here and they certainly don’t want to see that dwindle.

That is why, apart from inviting Helen Zille to London, they also invited president Jacob Zuma – and in 2010 hosted  him and his entourage in Buckingham Palace.

Government officials regularly get invited to London and they happily take up the offers, diplomats say, because sometimes they have more of a shopping trip to Harrods in mind than high-level political discussions.

But this thinking in the ANC and especially the intelligence resources deployed to “investigate” the relationship, speaks of a party that can’t own up to its own mistakes.

There are still some in the ANC who believe the Western Cape can be won back from the DA – convinced that voters were merely misled when they were convinced to vote for Zille’s party. It is unfathomable for this group in the ANC to imagine their descent in the province might have much to do with what the ANC has to offer.

Being in office has certainly exposed the DA to the challenges governance brings – as the Public Protector’s report about the processes in the Western Cape government shows. But for the ANC to maintain its hegemony in the South African society they will need to chip away at the DA’s successes and show how it can do a better job.

Nothing is gained by cooking up plots of how we will be re-colonised and spooking South Africans into re-imagining a British version of the  Drommedaris pulling up again in False Bay.

Carien du Plessis and Mandy Rossouw, City Press

Johannesburg - South Africa’s spooks are zooming in on the “suspiciously” cosy relationship between the DA and Britain.
A senior government official, who is also a high-ranking ANC leader, confirmed to City Press that the State Security Agency had increased analysis and surveillance.
The ruling party has been uncomfortable with the closeness between the two parties of late.
Issues that have fuelled the unease in the past three months include:
» A meeting last week between Western Cape Premier and DA leader Helen Zille and British government officials, including High Commissioner Nicola Brewer, where Zille allegedly asked for 10% of all investment in South Africa to come to the Western Cape. Zille denies this;
» A visit by Zille with a tourism delegation from the province to London earlier this month, where she told the SA Chamber of Commerce the ANC would split in the next seven years; and
» Former Zille adviser Ryan Coetzee’s appointment as adviser to Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg this month.
“There is something deeper than meets the eye and South African security has to analyse that,” the official said.
He said government was concerned that “an aggressive onslaught” from Britain and other European countries would undermine South Africa’s value-based approach to foreign policy.
The DA was establishing international relations to prepare for taking over government after the 2019 or 2024 general elections, the source said.

April fool's joke
Another high-ranking government official said the closeness between the British and the DA was similar to the British backing the MDC in Zimbabwe to overthrow the “hostile” government of President Robert Mugabe.
The matter is set to be discussed at the ANC’s third International Solidarity Conference, which kicks off on Thursday.
Zille said the story sounded like an April Fool’s joke.
“Is someone occupying a parallel universe somewhere? Or is this part of the ongoing ‘Zanufication’ of the ANC?”
She said in London she spoke positively about South Africa’s future. She met High Commissioner Zola Skweyiya and “had positive feedback every time”.
She was also interviewed by CNN, the Financial Times and The Economist, among others.
She said the DA’s relationship with Britain was “professional, as with all other governments with which South Africa has diplomatic relationships”.
The DA previously complained that they were being spied on.
State Security spokesperson Brian Dube said the agency “is guided by a need to uphold national security guided by the Constitution and national laws. In this regard, the agency does not interfere in normal political activities”.

It's ok to stone someone to death

Latest news

I am a proud white gay married South African who has served both in the South African Defence Force and The South African Police Reserve for our beloved country. Not once did I allow racist bigotry to affect my beliefs during that time of service.

We did not have a choice of not going to the army, or if we where to vocal god knows what would have happened to us. Just been gay was an offense in the army those days and I had to try and pretend to be straight.

I had to watch while colour ds soldiers ate out of plastic plates while we had silver plates or time plates and could not dare to do anything.

What irks me is that I too suffered during the apartheid times, I too slept in the park and had the state welfare look after me. My beliefs kept me out of some jobs, but the jobs I held I worked my ass off.

Now, we are still paying the price of those who did wrong in the apartheid error and those of us who did not do anything wrong but tried to help in silence and the new generation of white south Africans still have to be punished and suffer which was in the past.

What has happened to our country and what future do we have left

You have trade unions holding the country to ransom and killing non strikers by setting them on fire or murdering them.

Or if you want to be a ward councillor just take them out, shoot them in front of police, its all in a days work

The shame is when a car pulls up in front of police outside a court and opens fire and kills someone before the have the chance to appear in court.

Taking matters in their own hands, based on rumour, they will put a tyre around your neck and set you alight or stone you to death

Blowing up ATM’S has become common

Shooting you for a cell phone, there is no respect for life anymore.

Life has become cheap or expendable for the benefit of crime.

Crime is winning and the body count just escalates daily

I am already living in a prison, my home has become my fortress

As I have said time and time again, is that we are heading for civil war but it will be faction against faction in the battle for ultimate power and money.

This is my extreme point of view but it could become a realty

Where do I go then?

Personally, I have become concerned about my safety as many South Africans have, and not only that we have to take extreme measures to protect ourselves against crime.

The bloody sad thing is that if we do shoot an intruder in self defence you could get charged under the law.

So let us recap

Its fine to necklace and stone someone to death just on speculation

Its fine to set trucks, buildings on fire if things do not go our way

Its ok to burn innocent truck drivers who are not on strike and watch them die

Its ok to blame white south Africans for the current political climate and to say its from the apartheid regime, even after 14 yrs for freedom.

Its ok to blow up ATM’S and thank god no one got killed yet

Its ok to kill someone for R10 or their cell phone

Its ok to drive up and assassinate someone who is going to appear in court

Its ok if your are from another party to shoot your opposition candidate dead in front of police

Its ok not to give a dam about education for an entire province, that the parents have to take a local government to court.

All this is not ok

This is not the memory or legacy that Mandela built

South Africa Tuesday

Well nothing much has changed, once again murder and mayhem.

I have uploaded two more videos

My daily prayre is that things will not turn into a faction upon faction fight and almost end in civil war as that would destroy the legacy of Mandela and all those South Africans who have been working hard to make South Africa work

The masses are at large angered by soaring prices and their demands are too high to be met, already South Africa credit has been downgraded twice in one week due to all the strikes

People do not understand by taking life and destroying property and acting like barbarian gets  you no where only the entre country will have to pay the price.

I strongly believe that if something is not done soon, then the people will rise and all hell will break loose and that none of us want to happen.

It has been seen time and time again if the masses do not get want they want then they go on the rampage and destroy and this is not all of them but the bad apples, but that does not matter who is to blame, this must all stop

My fear is that there is going to be much more blood shed if our leaders do not  something quick

Sundays news and my personal message

I have been a proud South African all my life and have worked hard since the age of 16 and have battled the odds and have overcome many obstacles and survived.

But……….sadly the more despondent I become with the recent events in South Africa.

One does not have the basic freedoms one had before.

Its easy for ex pats living in Europe to point a finger at us and saying its not that bad, but they don’t have the first hand experience of crime that I have had, well let me correct that, many have left because of similar situations we now find our selves once again.

My biggest fear is that we are going to see more bloodshed in this country with all the violence going on, it just takes one good orator to lead a mass on a rampage.

We have to stop this violence

I have attached two videos.

Please comment

We have to stand together we can’t let fear rule our lives and we have to be pro active in our community if we want to survive

Tired

You get to a point in your life where you are exhausted and just want to sleep our bury yourself

Today is one of those days

I made a pledge that I would finish my book by end of this year which I have been writing for the past 6 years now

Life is too short and there is so much more to do than procrastinate over things that could have been concentrate on what you can do now to achieve your end goal

Sometimes you have to discipline yourself to the talk at hand and run the full race and complete it

Fear of the unknown

There is a smell of revolution in the air, with all the strikes and the rand in free fall what is going to happen next?

More murders have occurred in the past few days and the burning of trucks and destruction to property does not solve anything.

The miners or strikers refuse to work for anything under R16 500 and if their demands are not met they will destroy the mine.

God help us if this continues and more bloodshed is spilled.

Even our electric fencing does not protect us from the bad elements. I mean our flat got broken into with two security gates and two people got hurt just in our block.

I am dismayed at the the elements that are driving these people to do such horrendous things

When police and army are called in to protect the community.

Where will this all end?

Is it time for a mass exodus again from South Africa?

Based on fear?

Anarchy

Are we going back to anarchy of old, why must we fear where we walk during the day our night.
Why are the innocent born into the new South Africa still paying the price for the past Apartheid which they had no part in
Why is so much blood split and for what agenda?

My hope is that no more blood will be lost

Its not what you do for me but what can I do for you

To all my Facebook buddies that are either affected or infected by HIV or AIDS, remember that each day is a blessing no matter what comes your way.

I always say to myself its not what you can do for me, but what I can do for you without question and based on unconditional love and acceptance.

Embrace your spirit today and live life

Thought of the day

Love each other as you would love yourself

Eternal Friendship
True friendship comes from the heart and remains with one until all eternity. Yet, it is the strength and bondage of love and understanding of each other, that makes us friends. My hope is, that all our bond will last through all trials and tribulations,
Let our strength be that of a Lion and our hearts, that of a Lamb. Let each of us be each others strength in the times to come and endure all to come with integrity and loyalty...
For you are my friend.
Mark Farrell (March 1995 Body Positive News)
This Poem was written for the HIV/Aids international conference in Cape Town during March 1995.
Friendship on all levels means allot to me, and this poem expresses those thoughts.
To love life
In the final moments of life, as you soul and spirit become an entity, You leave all this pain and hurt behind. Knowing no harm can come to you, Seeking those departed loved ones you have not seen. But most of all, to be held I the arms of the one that loves you.
But I don't want to give up or leave this earth before I can teach my brothers about His love. The word "final" almost means the end, but to me there is much more beyond the final race.
Each breath I take and each flower I smell is worth each second of the day, to see the joy on a new mothers face as she hold her new born baby. To run freely in the fields and feel the wind rush through my hair and the freedom of nature and her kindness towards me.
Mark Farrell (March 1995 Body Positive News)
This is the second poem that I wrote in 1995 for the conference. When you first discover you are positive, you tend to be depressive. You feel that all has been lost and that you are going to die soon. You have no direction in life anymore and you just want to give up. There is so much more to life and to live a productive life full of energy is so much better. The choice I made was to live life and encourage all those around me to do the same. Look around you and see the marvels of creation and live!!!!!

You always have someone at your side, you just don't see it or feel it. Your spiritual guide is always there no matter what time of day or night it is. I too said that I am not a fighter but by my blog you will see how my life changed and I became a fighter and I still fight and share wisdom to those who need it in the time of need. I fear no man for I have peace within myself, as I love myself first, I share that unconditional love with others, so that they may be empowered and strengthened. Never say "I am not the fighting kind, but say I will empower those in need through the coping mechanisms I have achieved on the path of life I have walked thus far" Live life to the fullest, never surrender, never give up, let your life essence emanate and bring joy to those around you. Sunset

Its that time of day almost when the sun starts its journey towards sunset.

Never allow anger to set with the sun, it solves nothing but just brings anxiety and sadness.

Be forgiving and uplift one another in love

Do not ever allow the negative to overpower the positive within your lives.

Life is a journey and no matter how hard and long we always learn and gain wisdom

Sunshine

Good morning to you all

May the sun rays bring your warmth and inspire your spirit to live life to the fullest.

Let that same passion and desire shine today as they first time you said “I do” at the alter

Remember the first morning as you looked into each others eyes, that love and passion

You should have the same passion and desire each and every day and empower each other with wisdom and understanding

To know that you are overcomers in all things

Now, put away any thoughts or actions that have mad your angry or sad and look at each other and remember that first kiss and why you are together and how special you are

Feel the sun on your face and heart, and say to each other “I see the first sunrise in your eyes we shared, and I still feel and see that warmth within you”

Inspire each other, never let the cold wind take control but let the sunshine in to warm your relationship

Freedom

Let no man take your freedom

Do not allow yourself to become chained down and your spirit placed in bondage as this is only going to lead to your own demise

Love is unconditional and will never compromise or take your freedom from you

Never allow yourself to become entrapped and then find out its too late to try and escape

Listen to wisdom and rise above bondage and walk into freedom.

The above is meant for those who feel that they are entrapped either is a abusive relationship or situation and can not find a way out, believe me there is a way out

I found it and passed that light on to others so that they may indeed become free

Once you have found unconditional love like I have you will know and cherish every loving second that you have with the one that you are married too. (partners, life partners)

Wisdom

We tend to be materialistic in life………………………….

But, we  forget the spiritual inheritance we have achieved through the current and past walk of life. The wisdom and joy we have acquired without the cost of materialism as the fore of our journey.

What can I do for you today?

How has your day been, its almost midday here and that means lunch!

Ask yourself today, have I reached out to someone and told them that they are unique and loved?

Enhance someone’s life today even with the smallest gesture, will leave a huge positive impact on their lives.

“It should be, what can I do for you today, and not what, can you do for me today”

Embrace Life

Well it’s been some time since I have written anything for some time about the changes and blessings that I have gone through for the past few years

It comes down over all these years back to the first poem I wrote with such passion and vigour and what a friend actually means to me and should to others.

This was the first step in my life towards philosophy and wisdom and empowering those around me with coping mechanisms that I had gained along life’s path.

Over the last four to five years I have sort of put that all on the back burner, although those who have come across my path I have indeed empowered with coping mechanisms and have been over joyed to see them in return empower others with the gifts that I gave them without compensation.

There is no greater gift than unconditional love and acceptance of an individual, we have to use wisdom and understanding with each person what comes along our path and make judgement only after assessment of been with that person for some quality time.

We sometimes in haste make judgements without merit, only on what we may have heard, without personally getting to know that person via spending  quality time with them.

Hence in life I try and spend quality time with each person, no matter how short the time I may have, but make a positive impact in those moments (minutes and seconds) that I have and then only do I pass constructive judgement.

I am fallible, no one is perfect and we can make the wrong judgment and we need to go back to that person and apologise and make things right.

In my whole life I have not profited by others hard work, rather I have embraced a challenge and have overcome and worked with my own bare hands from scratch and have made things possible that was not possible in certain circumstances.

Because I persevered and came out on top.

Now its time for me to get back to my roots in writing philosophy and poetry again, so that as in years gone past, my works can bring joy and happiness to those who are either affected or infected by HIV/AIDS

As I said in my last post, I will update more often and keep on writing new works and publish them again via my blog

love to you all

Mark

But I have changed ARV regime and the bulking of fat is supposed to be no longer a problem.

5th of March 2012 3 years married

On the 5th of March next month Derek and I will be married for 3yrs and I would like to celebrate our union and successful marriage.'

Two HIV+ who deeply love each other and accept one another in totality without question or reserve who go the extra mile for each other.

I remember after my died Derek proposed to me on bended knee in a coffee shop and I thought it was a joke, but in fact he was been sincere and when it finally dawned on me that this was no dream but a realty I was overwhelmed with joy and love.

I had to wait over 40yrs for this perfect moment!

We are a modern couple that are committed to each other through all the trials and tribulations that might come our way.

Yes of course there is the part of yelling and screaming, geese if there was none of that, the marriage would be boring.

One has to take the quality time in reaching out to your partner and getting to know them inside out and by building on the wisdom you have gained to make your marriage work and successful

Many asked why I chose his surname, well I was the last in my bloodline of Farrell’s when my father passed, so I decided to take on his surname combined with mine Farrell-Watling and this is the reason why.

Farrell – in remembrance of all the good my father did and in his honour, to remember and honour him.

Watling – this is my new family with brother and sister in laws and a great father in law – once again I had a family with the blessings of cousins and nephews. Now I am a uncle with a fantastic group of Watlings.

I have to make reference to two very dear friends Peter and Jerome who have been friends for years and are also married and have been there for us through thick and thin. No matter what they have always gone the extra mile and in return we have too.

Such friendship lasts for all eternity.

We hold all our friends close to our hearts and will go the extra mile for each one of them with honesty, integrity and unconditional love.

I must mention Kevin who has also been a very long standing friend whom we dearly love and has been a blessing in our lives.

Yes, after three years we still have not been on a proper honeymoon due to circumstances but heh maybe on year no.5 lol we will go

To all those who where at the wedding three years ago, thank you and thank you for your love and support.

.

These are just some of the special moments, in the next update I will follow up with other photo’s of family

Once again thank you all for been a part in this journey of ours its been three years and you all have stood by our side.
